Six Month Smiles: Lodged Food, Stains, And Solutions

When you’ve chosen Six Month Smiles to correct your misalignment, you are in luck. You get all the benefits of traditional braces without having to deal with metal brackets and wires. Instead, you’ve got clear brackets on your teeth, which we shift with the help of tooth-colored wires! So, your treatment is practically invisible, right? Well, that is, until you get food stuck between your braces or you end up staining the brackets. How to keep your smile clean and your treatment is unnoticeable as ever? We are always ready with some helpful tips on hand!

Break Food Down First With A Fork And Knife

Without Six Month Smiles on your teeth, you usually use your front teeth for the first step in breaking down food. You might bite into an apple, bite into a sandwich, or otherwise. When you’ve got brackets and wires in place, this isn’t a good plan. You may damage your treatment and you will most likely end up with food stuck between brackets. It looks bad, it feels uncomfortable, and it’s not ideal for your oral health. Instead of relying on your teeth for the first step in eating, rely on a fork and knife instead (or your fingers) to break food into bite-size pieces. You can skip front teeth and immediately let your molars work their magic.

Careful With Staining Foods And Drinks!

As you may have guessed, your Six Month Smiles brackets can stain. This doesn’t mean one sip of coffee is going to destroy the near invisibility of your treatment. It does mean, however, that you should keep the following in mind:

  • It is a good idea to limit staining foods
  • If you’re going to consume something that stains, it’s wise to immediately rinse your smile with water afterwards
  • If you can brush after rinsing, even better
