Braces and Photos: Can They Mix?

Who doesn’t want to look as good as possible in a photo? If you are taking steps to correct misaligned teeth, or make your smile the best it can be, does that mean ducking out of photos? Absolutely not! There are a number of almost invisible orthdontic options to straighten teeth or correct jaw alignment. Some options have completely removable trays, that can be discreetly stored away when the cameras come out. If you keep your eye on the big picture: straighter teeth for the rest of your life, mixing braces and photos is no problem at all.

Nearly Invisible Options

While traditional braces rely on metal brackets and wires attached to the sides and front of the teeth, there are nearly-invisible options to consider. Some options for non-distracting improvement include:

Clear braces use innovative options like almost invisible high-tech wire, so there are not glints of reflective metal every time you smile.
Lingual brackets attach to the back of the tooth, rather than running across the front of the teeth.
Tray aligner systems use custom-fitted trays to gently move teeth. The trays are made of clear material, that is almost unnoticeable when being worn. In addition, trays can be removed for a few hours a day, allowing for comfortable eating and dental hygience.
Accelerated treatment plans take advantage of new techniques and technology to safely get  dramatic results in as little as six months.

After a careful examination, we will take digital pictures of your teeth and jaw structure, to see which option or options might be right for you.

Tips for the Camera Shy

  • Don’t look straight at the camera. Tipping or turning the head is often a flattering angle.
  • Focus attention on striking scenery, an interesting object or a bright scarf. No need to be the center of attention!
  • Get with a group, so it’s not all about you.
  • Offer to take the pictures (but don’t avoid being in a few yourself).
  • Focus on the fun. Genuine enthusiasm almost always makes for a great photo.
