Holiday Blunders That Can Destroy Orthodontic Treatments

Yep, it’s absolutely true: There are some blunders that are very, very easy to avoid. However, if you choose not to pay attention to them, you can end up causing some very serious damage to the orthodontic treatment that you’re currently receiving. This might be brackets and wires. It might include clear aligner trays. Whatever the case, we advise you to take a quick listen to the things we have in mind and then steer clear of them to the best of your ability. Remember, your orthodontic experience won’t last forever. Avoiding certain risks is well worth making it through without creating complications in the process.

Watch That Ribbon, Etc.!

As you bring your present toward your face to open it more quickly by biting into ribbon, tape, a box, etc., think again! This is hands down one of the easiest ways to pull a bracket off of your tooth, to damage your clear aligner trays, etc. Don’t put your orthodontic treatment (and your teeth) in this position! Find other tools with which to unwrap your holiday surprise, so your surprise doesn’t also include a trip to our practice for immediate help.

Just Say No To Candy Canes And More

They’re dangerous enough when you’re not undergoing orthodontic treatment. Avoid them right now. They can break your treatment, damage teeth, stab your aligner trays, and even stab your gums.

Bring Your Brush And Floss

We have mentioned this before and we will mention it again! To avoid any type of damage to your orthodontic treatment (and to avoid ending up with gingivitis or other issues with your smile), always keep your brush and floss around. Whether you’re going to dinners, staying over at friends’ houses, etc. this holiday. Keep your smile and treatment clean for exceptional results.
